2nd February 2024 Coromandel / Surf Lifesaving
A popular tourist attraction on the Coromandel Peninsula is proving to be a rescue hotspot for surf lifesavers this summer.
Iconic Coromandel tourist spot, Cathedral Cove, has been completely closed to the public due to a severe slip in the last two days, as well as washouts, fallen trees, and flooding.
The cleaning operation required the use of a helicopter and its crew, a septic tank truck and several DOC staff to empty more than 3.5 tonnes of waste.
Stunning scenery, seafood and sharing industry information was the main course of the day for the Coromandel’s first Food Forum held this week.
International visitor spend jumped 22% to $106m for the year to June 2017 in a record year for The Coromandel, according to Destination Coromandel’s latest annual report.
The Coromandel’s tourism sector enjoyed a bumper 2016, with data showing that visitor spending totalled $337M in 2016, up 7.7% from its 2015 level.
