Jacinda Ardern made her first trip to Hobbiton Movie Set yesterday as prime minister and was shown the sights at the Matamata attraction.
The PM was in the district to announce $1.7m worth of Provincial Growth Fund grants for tourism and industry projects.
Hobbiton chief executive Russell Alexander gave Ardern and other dignitaries including Matamata-Piako mayor Jan Barnes a tour of his popular attraction.
Hobbiton also took the opportunity to gift the PM a special Middle-earth portrait created by one of its talented in-house artists, Will Buchanan.
